MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) - Authorities in Butler County are looking for a man they say set a cat on fire.

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones says Kevin Sullivan, 32, used lighter fluid as an accelerant to set the animal on fire. According to Jones, it happened September 19th in Middletown. Jones says an officer had to shoot the cat to 'put it out of its misery.'

Police initially questioned Sullivan about the incident and Sheriff Jones says Sullivan lied to officers. A warrant has been issued for Sullivan for cruelty to animals, a fifth-degree felony. "This is absolutely disturbing, and the guy definitely needs to be off the streets," Jones said. "I don't understand people who harm or torture a defenseless animal, it is a very cowardly thing to do."

If you know where Sullivan can be found, you're asked to call the Butler County Sheriff's Office at 513-785-1300. You can also text COPS to 274637 to leave an anonymous tip.
