Made Local: Pure Design Ministries

The quarterly magazine both online and in print is all about "inspiring teens in self image, self worth and pure beauty". (WSYX/WTTE)

Pam Lozano is the founder and president of Pure Design Ministries. After being in youth ministry for 19 years, she started Pure Design Magazine.

“I'd worked with a lot of teenage girls and I just saw a lot of heartache,” Pam explained. “I saw a lot of pain, I saw a lot of suffering and I just kept asking, "What can I do to help these girls that are in need?"

So she partnered up with her teenaged daughter Caeilen who is now the style editor and creative director.

“I was looking for something that she could be involved in with me and her dream is fashion and she's going to be going to OSU in a couple of years to do fashion marketing and merchandising and so I was just trying to find something that we could do together,” Pam said.

Pam and Caeilen say they love working together and have a great relationship.

“We have strengths and weaknesses that play off of each other,” Pam said. “She sees things from a 19-year-old's perspective that I don't see anymore. I carry a mentoring piece - just life experiences and things that she doesn't have yet, so it's been fun to work together as mother and daughter on this.”

Caeilen says the magazine is definitely set apart from others available on newsstands geared toward the same age group. “It’s not all about what makes you look thin, what makes you look sexy, what draws attention to different body parts, but this is empowering you to be your full self, and who you are, and how you were created.”

Pam agreed, “ We want to present truth. We want to be counter-cultural, we want to tell these girls, ‘Beauty comes in all shapes, sizes, ethnicities, and it's not about being stick thin or airbrushed. Beauty is how God's created you to be.’”.

Pure Design is partnering up with KidsLinked.com and hosting the “Fashion in Full Bloom” fashion show at the Columbus Children’s Festival on Saturday, June 17th. Contestants will be showcasing the season’s biggest floral trends. Fashion show entry fees are $5 per person. Winners and runners up will receive prizes worth hundreds of dollars.
