Some people whistle while they work.

A local school custodian chooses to sing. And he's using his voice to send a message that goes far beyond the classroom walls.

Wilbert Knight’s voice carries through the halls at Pugliese West Elementary School in Steubenville.

Every note comes from his heart, touching the hearts of others.

“I just wanted to do that because I just wanted to reach out to the people,” Knight said.

Knight is a favorite among students and teachers alike.

“A lot of these kids need a hug because they don't get it at home, and I'm there for them,” he said.

Knight has never had any formal vocal training, but he knows his voice is a blessing.

“It's just a gift from God,” he said.

And like all gifts, it's meant to be given.

“Mr. Knight approached me and said, ‘you know, I really want to send some positive vibes out into the world,”’ teacher Jared Robinson said.

Knight doesn't have social media, so he asked a teacher to post a song on Facebook. It quickly racked up thousands of views and hundreds of shares.

“To see that go and spread and see him rewarded for that, it was it was magical,” Robinson said.

Knight is at it again, this time sending a Christmas carol out into the world, giving of himself and expecting nothing in return.

“I want to touch their hearts; there's good things out there,” Knight said. “You look at the TV and always see negative things. They need to see some positive things, and that's positive.”
