Arrest made in murder of 24-year-old aspiring funeral director
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) -- Neighbors of a murdered woman aspiring to become a funeral director expressed relief an arrest was made in her death.
Columbus Police announced Friday that Anthony Pardon was arrested for the murder of Rachael Anderson.
Authorities wouldn’t go into details about how she died, but said she was tortured.
"She was concealed inside a closet, which was released a few days ago, but that being the case I don't think I want to go into exactly what the torture consisted of. But it was a violent death,” said Sergeant Stan Latta of Columbus Police.
Sergeant Latta said credit card activity and DNA helped to confirm Pardon was responsible for the 24-year-old woman’s death.
Anderson lived at Cardinal Creek Apartments. Danielle Austin lives at the complex and said she’s happy an arrest has been made.
"It makes me feel just a little better at least about going to bed at night,” said Austin.
Austin said since Anderson’s death, apartment management has urged residents to say something if they notice anything suspicious.
Austin said she never met the victim, but noticed her car in front of her apartment and wondered if she missed signs of a problem.
"She clearly knew something was going on because she parks her car around here, but she parked in front of my house this particular night."
A preliminary hearing for Pardon will be held Friday February 16th at 9:30 AM.
