Former OSU star Troy Smith charged with possession of drug paraphernalia
COLUMBUS, Ohio —
Former quarterback for the Ohio State Buckeyes and 2006 Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith was stopped by the Franklin County Sheriff's Office Friday night.
According to police Smith was stopped at the DUI checkpoint at 9 p.m.
Deputies detected a strong odor of marijuana in his vehicle.
He was diverted into the diversion area for further investigation.
Smith refused all field tests and denied being impaired.
Deputies found various paraphernalia in the vehicle.
The vehicle was impounded and he was given a summons to appear in court.
Smith has been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and OVI.
This isn't the first time Smith has been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested back in 2016 for drunk driving and possession of marijuana.
