The mayor of Hilliard announced the Recreation and Parks director has been fired.

In a statement, Mayor Don Schonhardt says he has terminated Steve Mazer’s employment with the City of Hilliard as the Director of Recreation and Parks.

The termination was effective 9 a.m. Thursday. Schonhardt said the city will now look for a permanent replacement.

Mazer has been the director since he was appointed in March of 2008.

Beth Simon, Recreation Program Manager, has been selected as the Department’s interim Acting Director per Schonhardt.

Schonhardt said Simon has twenty-two years of experience working in the City’s Department of Recreation and Parks.

There was no comment on whether the firing was related to the indictment of former deputy director Heather Ernst, accused of stealing funds from Hilliard pools.
