Man busted at another suspected "drug house" in west Columbus
Police arrested a man who they said they spotted coming from another suspected "drug house" only days after the city boarded up a home a block away due to drug activity.
Devonte Brown faced a judge Wednesday after he was accused of carrying a significant amount of meth, crack, heroin and fentanyl in his underwear Monday night. Police stopped him as they said he was coming from a home on Belvidire Avenue that is run by members of the street gang Fetti Nation.
Last week, the city attorney's office shut down a house on Whitethorne Avenue in the same neighborhood due to drug sales, prostitution and gun offenses. The city attorney's office filed a complaint calling the property a nuisance. Six months earlier, federal agents said two suspected drug dealers killed two woman in a home on Whitethorne that sits directly across the street from the suspected drug house. Agents stated the suspects trafficked in heroin and cocaine and would keep their drugs in "trap houses" in the area.
Despite the house board-up and arrest this week off Whitethorne and Belvidire Avenues, neighbors there tell ABC 6/FOX 28 that more drug houses keep popping up. They estimated four to five more exits on those streets between Broad Street and Sullivant Avenue.
The city attorney's office told ABC 6/FOX 28 that they're on pace to board up a total of 20 drug houses this year, which doubles the ten they boarded up last year.
