Man indicted for dumping hazardous waste throughout south Columbus
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) -- A Franklin County man has been formally charged dumping hazardous waste throughout south Columbus.
Randall Ray Belcher, 45, is accused of 230 large vehicle fuel tanks and an empty 55-gallon drum at ten different locations in south Columbus across several months in 2014 and 2015.
Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O'Brien said Belcher scrapped the metal components of gas tanks and dumped the remaining contents of the mostly-plastic tanks, including gasoline, in alleys, business parking lots, and backyards of houses.
O'Brien also claimed Belcher answered a Craigslist ad by a local auto salvage yards offering the tanks free to anyone who'd haul them away.
Belcher faces 20 counts of illegal hazardous waste disposal, hazardous waste transportation, and open dumping.
Each count punishable to up four years in prison and a $25,000 fine.
