Man killed after failing to yield to train in Perry County

OSHP said 85-year-old Jarvie V. Johnson of New Lexington was driving south on Twp Rd 185 when he failed to yield to a train traveling eastbound at a rail grade crossing. (MGN ONLINE)

The Lancaster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said that a man was killed after he failed to yield to a train in Jackson Twp.

According to OSHP, the accident happened on Twp Rd 185 near SR-37 around 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

OSHP said 85-year-old Jarvie V. Johnson of New Lexington was driving south on Twp Rd 185 when he failed to yield to a train traveling eastbound at a rail grade crossing. Johnson entered the path of the train and was hit.

Johnson was rushed to Fairfield Medical Center where he later died as a result of his injuries.

According to OSHP, no flashing signals or gates were present at the intersection.

OSHP urged all drivers to be cautious when driving across railroad tracks.

The crash remained under investigation.
