Man killed in East Columbus shooting

Police investigated a deadly shooting stemming from a robbery attempt in an East Columbus apartment complex Sunday night.

Officers responded to a reported shooting at Rarig Court apartments in the 900 block of Rarig Avenue around 8:30 p.m. Police said 31-year-old Brandon L. Bridges was taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition with a gunshot wound where he later died from his injuries.

As police canvassed the area around Rarig and East 11th Avenues for evidence, an officer was seen placing a teenage boy in a cruiser. Officers said he was being taken for questioning, but it's unclear how he may have been connected to the case.

Homicide detectives said they crime scene and would be secured and monitored by police throughout the night.

It's the city's 129th homicide of 2017, ten short of the record set in 1991.
