A fight at a Hilltop convenience store led to a man being hit with a vehicle and killed early Thursday morning, Columbus police said.

Officers responded to report of a man being shot in the head in 400 block of S. Warren Avenue around 12:45 a.m., dispatchers said. Police were not immediately able to confirm whether or not he had been shot.

The man was pronounced dead on the scene.

Homicide investigators said the situation began nearby as an altercation between several people in the parking lot of the Food Mart Express along Sullivant Avenue.

Officers located an abandoned SUV in an alley a few blocks away that they believed was involved in the incident.

Detectives planned to question a couple who were being treated for injuries from the fight.

Investigators said they were checking footage from the convenience store and city crime cameras for evidence.

No names have been released.
