Police: Suspected pizza delivery robber caught in the act

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) -- A Columbus man has been arrested after police said he tried to rob two pizza delivery drivers on the same night.

Tyreekk Gills, 19, was arrested after officers said they caught him in the act of an attempted robbery a short time after he allegedly robbed another pizza delivery driver at the same south Columbus home on Monday night.

Officers responded to a reported armed robbery around 9:53 p.m. A PJ's Pizza delivery driver told police a male paid for the pizza as she brought it to a home and as she walked back to her vehicle, she noticed a male coming toward her. He reportedly confronted her with a gun, demanded everything she had, then held onto her car door as she drove away. She then returned to PJ's Pizza and called police.

Officers then aired suspect descriptions and info to other patrol units in the area. A plainclothes officer responded to the south Columbus home in an attempt to make contact with the suspect(s), officials said. As the officer was driving down the street, he said he saw a Domino's pizza delivery driver pull up to the same home. He then saw the driver walk up to the same home, knocked, then started to leave after getting no response.

The plainclothes officer then reported what he believed to be the robber about to commit the same crime again. Patrol officers immediately moved in to prevent any harm to the pizza delivery driver.

In the video, you can see a woman, who police say is Gills' mother, understanding that her son acknowledging what police body cam video recorded: her son with a gun in his waistband suspected of trying to rob someone.
