Grandview Heights man moved to Asia to study kickboxing, but found a new career... in beer
COLUMBUS, Ohio —
Sideswipe Brewing, located on the West Side of Columbus, is about to celebrate the anniversary of its taproom opening.
"We say it's pallet-punching beer," said owner Craig O'Herron.
O'Herron, who spends his free time in the kickboxing ring, moved to Asia in 2006 to focus on the sport.
"I went to South Korea for a year and Thailand for two," he said, "but the beer there is not great."
Even though he was there to perfect his kickboxing craft, he ended up spending much of his time working on a different one: beer.
When he returned to Central Ohio, he opened the brewery.
"It's just a classic drink that brings people together," he said.
O'Herron attributes part of the brewery's success to its location: Central Ohio.
"It takes leaving Columbus to appreciate Columbus," he said. "We are a growing, developing city and we have people who are willing to seek out new and interesting things."
