Blue Jackets, fans enjoy outdoor practice in Winter Park

Friday was a rare day for the Columbus Blue Jackets and their faithful. The fans got up close and personal with the players and the players got to practice outside. The Blue Jackets held an outdoor practice at the outdoor rink at Winter Park, which was free and open to fans.

Jackets defenseman Jack Johnson said it was great to see the fans and get some fresh air.

"The last time I got to skate outdoors was here last year. We just don't get to do it very often."

Forward Brandon Saad said it's definitely different than playing inside.

"We had the fans out here today. It was great. So, I know as a team it was nice to get a break away from the rink and get outside and enjoy a little 3-on-3 action," he said.

Wind chills were in the teens at the time of the noon practice. Fans didn't let the frigid weather ruin their chance to see the players.

"It's cold, especially with the breeze, but it's hockey weather so it worked out perfect today," said Tommy Dunn.

But with afternoon highs close to 60 degrees this weekend it may not be perfect weather for skating. Winter Park has had to temporarily close because of melting ice on the rink. They suggest checking their website or their Twitter account for updates all weekend long.
