A registered sex offender faced a judge after police said he tied up and raped a woman he had just met at Scioto Audubon Metro Park near downtown Columbus.

Police said David Shearer, 57, had met the victim, 37, who was from out of town at the bus stop. Police said they went to the park together where he had "choked her, forced her to disrobe." In court Wednesday, officers also told the judge, "Her hands were bound with surgical tape."

Court documents indicate park rangers at Scioto Audubon Metro Park interrupted the attack Saturday morning. They called police at 9 a.m. The park director would not speak with ABC 6/FOX 28 about park security as he said the attack did not technically take place on park property. In Saturday's 911 call, park rangers stated, "We're right near the dog park."

Shearer was charged with rape and kidnapping. He's already listed as a "sexual predator" in Franklin County with past sex crimes conviction in California. He was also convicted of gross sexual imposition last year in Ohio. The judge set bond at $500,000.
