A woman stabbed by a man in Newark Wednesday is speaking out on her brutal attack.

"I feel pretty beat up. Like mentally, physically just bruised up and now I'm hurtin," said Cheryl Loughman.

Newark Police said around 2:30 Wednesday afternoon, Raymond David Taylor stabbed her.

The wounds are still visible, including cuts on her hands as she tried to wrestle away his knife.

"I was literally fighting for my life."

The 36-year-old said Taylor is her ex-boyfriend. He was staying in her home after recently getting out of jail.

She said Taylor has a pill addiction which fueled the attack.

"Just because I wouldn't go get him his pills. That's all it took. He grabbed a knife out of his hand, grabbed me by my hair and took the knife and just slit me in the back of my neck. Blood starting coming and it was a big fight."

Authorities said after the attack, Taylor led police on a chase. Dash cam video captured the pursuit which ended in rural Licking County with police opening fire.

Three Newark Police officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave.

"They've been taken off the street. They won't do active policing on the street until the investigation has either ended or near completion," said Newark Police Sergeant Clint Eskins.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is looking into the shooting.

Meanwhile Loughman is trying to process how someone she once loved could hurt her.

"I never thought that he would hurt me like that. I knew he was addicted to pills but I didn't think it was that bad."

This mom is healing thanks to her family. It's the same family she credits for motivation in surviving her attack

"The only thing I could think about was my kids: my kids and getting out of there," said Loughman.

Taylor is facing a number of charges and is being held on a $1 million bond.
