Winter storm closes roads, cancels events, leaves thousands without power

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) -- The first winter storm of the season has caused extensive damage throughout Central Ohio.

According to AEP Ohio, approximately 5,000-7,000 people have been without power for much of the evening due to downed power lines and other causes for outages.

In Pickaway County, US-23 is closed in South Bloomfield due to multiple reports of downed power lines.

Columbus City Schools (the largest school district in the state) cancelled all Saturday athletic events due to weather.

Around 1 a.m. Saturday, I-70 westbound was closed at I-270 in west Columbus due to a jackknifed semi.
