FALL RIVER, MA (WSYX/WTTE) -- A convenience store owner showed that he won't stand for crime in his shop after he fought off an attempted robber.

Ahmad Abdulrahman, a 35-year-old Syrian refugee, chased away a robber dressed like a ninja at his Fall River, Massachusetts store (50 miles south of Boston), according to surveillance video shown by WCVB.

"He puts out the mask. He was pleading to give him the money. I told him, sorry I have no money here," Abdulrahman told WCVB.

After being threatened with an expandable metal baton, the video showed Abdulrahman grabbed a two-by-four and started swinging at the suspect. He then went after the suspect, forcing him out of the store he said he bought last year.

"Unfortunately some people are so weak, they think it's so easy to walk in and take your money, but not me," he said.

Abdulrahman said he was fighting for his livelihood, his wife, and his two young children. He added that he's seen far worse having survived the Syrian Civil War.

"You have to be tough to survive. You have to act tough, and thanks to God, I'm doing well, I open my store. I close it. I do like 17 hours a day, 7 days a week, thanks God," he said.

WCVB reports no arrests have been made yet, but surveillance video has given them a few leads
