Three week old baby killed, mom hurt after being struck by car in Marlboro County

A three week old baby girl has died after a car hit the infant and her mother while they walking Sunday night on Highway 9 near David's Pond Road in Bennettsville, according to Marlboro County Coroner Tim Brown.

The 20-year-old mother's condition hasn't been released by officials.

Brown identified the baby as Naomi Stancil.

Relatives said the mother left home walking with her daughter. They said the mother suffered a broken ankle and leg.

South Carolina Highway Patrol's Special Accident Investigation Unit is investigating.

SCHP and Marlboro County Sheriff's Office are working to determine what department is going to be lead investigator, according to Cpl. Sonny Collins when S.C. Highway Patrol.
