Suspect identified in shooting that killed police chief, two nursing home employees
LICKING COUNTY, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) -- Police have identified the man accused of killing three people at nursing home in rural Licking County on Friday morning.
An officer on scene confirmed to ABC 6/FOX 28 that 43-year-old Thomas Hartless is the man suspected of shooting Kirkersville Police Chief Steven Eric DiSario and two employees at the Pine Kirk Care Center in the small community of Kirkersville.
Investigators are at the home of Hartless' parents in Utica searching for evidence. They said he lived there "off and on."
A criminal background check on Hartless revealed he was sentenced to 15 months in jail for aggravated assault in Knox County. He was released less than eight months into his prison term. WCLT reported Hartless met an ex-girlfriend in Newark in July of 2009. Police said Hartless assaulted her, bounding her wrists and ankles with duct tape and held her against her will for several hours before he let her go.
Hartless also had kidnapping and abduction charges on his record as well as a drunk driving conviction.
Law enforcement agencies and politicians all took to social media to express the sorrow and offer condolences to the victims and those effected by the tragedy.
ABC 6/FOX 28 will have more details in this story as it develops.
