COLUMBUS (Camille Doty) -- Police are investigating a hit-and-run crash near Nationwide Children’s Hospital around 6 p.m. December 5.
They say Avis Helmuth, 69, was hit by someone driving a black Chrysler Pacifica while she walking on Livingston Avenue.
The driver got out of the car to see about the victim. Moments later the passenger jumped behind the steering wheel and took off toward Ann Street.
Police don’t know if the getaway was planned by both parties or if the passenger acted alone.
Investigators say the victim was thrown between 15 and 20 feet when she was hit. She was taken to Grant Medical Center with a leg injury and cuts.
Detective Gerald Milner says it’s rare to have video from several angles for a single crash, “It’s almost like a television show,” he says.
Milner believes the passenger and the driver are women in their late 30s or early 40s.
