COLUMBUS (Steve Levine) – An East Columbus day care center is “Fighting Back” after thieves steal copper wiring three times in a month.

Crooks broke into a locked fence behind God’s Kidz Daycare, 2300 S. Hamilton Rd., and walked off with more than $40,000 in copper.

“It’s sad, that someone’s greed would disrupt the education of children in this community,” said Director Martin Doneghy.

The crime didn’t end with that one break-in.  A week later, burglars stole five copper cables from a generator being used to power the daycare’s building.

Two days ago, copper attachments for the generator were ripped off.

“This is a sophisticated operation,” said owner Eric Warren, “they know where there are deposits of copper and electrical wiring.”

The daycare now removing the power cables from the generator each night , and re-connecting them each morning before it opens for business.Daycare
