WHITEHALL (Ken Hines) -- A suspect in a robbery and attempted abduction is in police custody after being arrested by SWAT officers on Wednesday night.
Kyle Douglas Seymour is charged with kidnapping and felony theft after being identified as a suspect in the June 6 robbery of a driver near the intersection of E. Main St. and S. Hamilton Road.
Seymour was arrested at his home on Granite Falls Dr. in Blacklick after surveillance photos shown by local media outlets led to several tips from members of the public.
Police said Seymour was sitting on a bench when the victim stopped at a traffic light, and told the woman her vehicle was damaged. When the victim rolled her passenger-side window down, Seymour allegedly entered the car, grabbed her wrist, and ordered her to drive.
The victim ignored Seymour's demand, and managed to safely exit the vehicle. Seymour then grabbed the woman's purse, and fled the scene, according to investigators.
Police said Seymour was recorded by security cameras attempting to use three of the victim's credit cards at two gas stations within an hour of the theft.
An SUV owned by Seymour's girlfriend is believed to have been used during the crime, and was found by police abandoned in the parking lot of a nearby Giant Eagle.
Seymour's girlfriend told police she did not know what her boyfriend was doing at the time of the robbery.
Police initially believed Seymour's alleged crime was connected to the abduction and robbery of a man from a Walmart parking lot on June 8, but investigators have since determined the crimes are not related.
