Thieves Targeting Genoa Township Cars

Updated: Friday, August 2 2013, 11:42 PM EDT
GENOA TOWNSHIP (Steve Levine) -- Police tonight are warning folks to lock their car doors after a recent spike in overnight break-ins.

Over the past few months, thieves have been getting into vehicles in the Highland Lakes, Medallion, Barrington Estates (Maxtown and Spring Run), and Grand Oaks subdivisions.

Ami, one of several theft victims in the area, said her car was broken into on Sunday night. She said thieves stole a Sony camcorder that contains videos and photos of her husband, who died six months ago.

“It had everything on the camera, from before my son was born, until the day my husband passed," Ami said. "[I] really would like it back."

Police believe the crimes are connected, saying thieves were able to get inside a majority of the cars because drivers left the doors unlocked.

At least two of the car break-ins have been caught on camera.

Anyone with information about the break-ins is asked to call Genoa Township Police at 614-568-2060.Thieves Targeting Genoa Township Cars
