COLUMBUS — An 11-year-old boy is recovering from a car crash that police say was caused by a drunk driver.
On Thursday night Kimberly Kelley’s car ran out of gas on Mccutcheon Road.
Her four children and her boyfriend were in the car when she had to pull over to the side of the road. She says she had her lights and flashers on.
When the car hit, her 11-year-old son Kashawn suffered a head injury and was unconscious for two days. He’s now in fair condition.
Her 8-year-old son has a broken ankle but her two daughters didn't suffer any injuries.
Kelley and her boyfriend, Darius, suffered bumps and bruises.
They both tell ABC 6/FOX 28 the woman driver was walking away acting as if she wasn’t the person driving the car, but Darius says when he pointed her out to police, she confessed.
He says the woman’s boyfriend drove up after the accident and told police they’d been drinking to celebrate her birthday.
Police charged that driver, 42-year-old Sherry Larochelle, with two counts of aggravated vehicular assault and failure to cooperate with officers.
In court they said she refused to give them her purse, but when they searched it, found marijuana inside.
The judge set her bail at $22,000, and suspended her driver’s license.
She made bond and left jail, but she was not at home when ABC 6/FOX 28 knocked on her door today.
Sherry Larochelle is due back in court March 29th.
