City Crime Cameras Info Coming
Updated: Monday, February 25 2013, 07:42 PM EST
COLUMBUS - Columbus city leaders are expected to make a major announcement about the future of safety cameras in the capital city tomorrow.
ABC6 / FOX28 has learned the announcement could include news about a major monetary investment in safety cameras for more neighborhoods in the city.
ABC 6 reviewed the crime statistics we got from the Columbus Department of Public Safety.
The information is from the five areas in the city already with safety cameras, and was tallied between January and July 2012.
The results appear mixed. Areas where crime decreased: Weinland Park and the Linden area.
Areas where crime increased: the Mount Vernon and Livingston Avenue neighborhoods.
But the data includes all the crime from the neighborhoods, and not just where the cameras are situated.
A few extra cameras have already been added to certain neighborhoods.
Now the city is exploring whether to install cameras in up to three additional neighborhoods.
They could have an answer about this in about a month.
