Cleaning Lady Accused of Theft

WORTHINGTON - A senior citizen's credit card and jewelry was stolen after police say she hired a cleaning lady.
Worthington Police said Damarra Young went on a shopping spree with the stolen credit card.
"They seem to be picking on the seniors today," said the victim Mary Maksem. "We're vulnerable. We still trust and we can't trust like we used to."
Maksem said she had just gotten back from the hospital when she hired Young to help.
Detectives said Young used Maksem's credit card to buy shoes online and even a couple pizzas.
Police said Young has prior convictions for theft, receiving stolen property, assaulting an officer and even spitting on a deputy.
Maksem said she can't believe someone with a long criminal record would be allowed to make house calls.
"You get a little paranoid," she said. "You have to be careful. (The cleaning company) asked me if I wanted somebody to come back and I said, 'no thank you'. I think I'd rather crawl around the house first before I would have someone come back."
Police said Young was employed by Friendly Care Agency. Detectives said that agency does background checks, but lets people work before the results come back. That's how Young was able to get the job with such a long record.
The owner of Friendly Care Agency has yet to return our call.
