Columbus Police Chief Discusses Officers in Schools

COLUMBUS — Columbus Police Chief Kim Jacobs tells ABC6 Reporter Carol Luper teen gangs are a problem in Columbus.
Police have charged two teens in the shooting death of 15 year old Kaewaun Coleman January 17th, and detectives believe that shooting was gang related.
The chief says officers in the gang unit try to prevent gang violence.
They are also trying to mediate the gang’s need for retaliation.
Sometimes they’ll try to talk to the kids at funerals to try to get through to them and counsel them.
The Chief also talked about gun violence in schools.
She says adding armed police officers in schools is not an answer because potential shooters would just go to a mall or somewhere else, and she says there are not enough officers to be in all schools.
