Daycare Thefts in Blendon Twp.

Updated: Tuesday, March 26 2013, 08:23 PM EDT
BLENDON TOWNSHIP -- A warning for moms as police investigate a rash of car break-ins outside day cares and schools.

Blendon Township police are investigating three cases since January.

The police chief tells ABC6/FOX28, the thief, who may have a getaway driver, watches for moms who are distracted and in a hurry then breaks into their cars and steals valuables left on the front seats.

In some cases, Chief John Belford says the cars were left running.

"It was the classic I was only going to be gone for a minute and when I got back those items were gone," said Chief Belford.

Chief Belford says the crooks immediately went to stores to cash in on stolen credit cars mostly buying gift cards.

Police have released surveillance video of a woman leaving a Target store.  Police believe she is at least one person responsible for the crime spree.
