Dublin Bus Driver Disputes Firing over Drunk Driving Charge

Updated: Wednesday, April 10 2013, 07:59 PM EDT
COLUMBUS -- A former Dublin school bus driver claims she should not have been fired after being charged with driving drunk in her personal car.

The lawyer for Tracy Markum told ABC 6/FOX 28 his client was charged with OMVI, but ended up pleading guilty to a lesser charge.

Markum, who was allowed to continue driving a Dublin school bus for two months following her arrest, says she was fired after a television station aired a report erroneously stating she was convicted of OMVI.

According to a statement from the Ohio Dept. of Education, Markum's certificate to drive a bus was revoked after the organization received a tip from the state highway patrol. In the statement, ODE says Dublin Schools "erred in allowing this driver to still be on the road."

Markum was fined $375 as part of her plea deal, and will be permitted to drive only to and from work for a 3 month period.

Markum said she is considering taking legal action in response to her firing.
