WILCOX COUNTY, GA -- For the first time in over 40 years, students at Wilcox County High School in Georgia held their first non-segregated prom.
For several decades the school had put on two proms - one for white students and one for black students.
Even though the students had asked for change for many years, nothing ever changed.
A group of students, two black students and two white students, decided to take matters into their own hands.
They created a Facebook page asking for donations and support to put on their own dance.
About half of the student body came out for the prom that was open to all students. This was not an actual school event.
Their dance was still held and only white students attended.
