CIRCLEVILLE -- Teachers and students at Ohio Christian University say their hearts are broken following the death of a teen who fell Saturday while hiking in Hocking Hills.
Sophomore Josias Rodriguez died after falling 60 ft. while hiking off the designated trail as part of a team-building exercise near the area known as Old Man's Cave.
A memorial was held in Rodriguez's honor on the Ohio Christian campus on Monday. The young man's mother spoke at the event, urging students to find a purpose for their lives.
Reverend Aaron Duvall also addressed the mourners, describing Rodriguez as "a breath of fresh air, and a light in a dark world."
Rodriguez's friends planted a flowering tree during the memorial, which will honor the student's memory for years to come
"I hope that as the tree grows, Josias's legacy will live on," a friend told ABC 6/FOX 28.
A candlelight vigil in Rodriguez's honor will be held on campus Monday night.
Ohio Christian classes were canceled on Monday, and exams were postponed.
