Gay Bishop Watterson Teacher Files to Get Job Back

Updated: Tuesday, April 30 2013, 05:10 PM EDT
UPDATE:  Carla Hale has filed an appeal with the Columbus' Community Relations Commission claiming she was unjustly fired.

She has also filed an appeal with the Catholic Educators Association -- an organization that can appeal her case to the Catholic Diocese.

Her lawyer has not yet decided whether or not to file a case in court.

COLUMBUS
-- The father of a Bishop Watterson High School student was kicked out
of a Sunday night fundraiser while criticizing the city's Bishop for
letting the school take the heat for the firing of gay teacher Carla
Hale.

John Petrucci told ABC 6/FOX 28 he was forcefully escorted
out of a fundraising dinner for attempting to ask Bishop Frederick
Campbell about his failure to respond to national criticism over the
Columbus Diocese's decision to fire Hale.

The popular teacher was let go after publicly acknowledging her relationship with her female partner.

Petrucci
says he isn't expressing an opinion on Hale's firing, but believes
Campbell has failed to take responsibility for the move, instead
allowing the school to remain the subject of public criticism.

“He wasn’t willing to get out in front of this and protect those thousands of kids at Bishop Watterson,” Petrucci said.

Additional
security measures have been in place at the school in recent days, due
in part to calls deemed "menacing" by Columbus police.

Petrucci
said he attempted to address his concerns with the Bishop on Sunday, but
was physically removed from the event by security staff members.

Petrucci
claims he suffered a hairline fracture during the incident, and has
since filed a police report with Upper Arlington police.

Despite
the criticism, the Diocese has stood by the decision to fire Hale. The
public's interest in that decision could rise to a new level on May 3,
the date the hacktivist group Anonymous claims it will begin releasing
potentially harmful information about Diocese members if Hale isn't
reinstated.
