CIRCLEVILLE -- A pair of hiking accidents result in one death and another seriously injured. Both incidents happened in Hocking Hills State Park at different locations.
Park Police say the first incident resulted in the death of Josias Rodriguez, 19, a student at Ohio Christian University. Police say Rodriguez was hiking off the designated trail with a group as part of a team-building exercise. Rodriguez fell 60-feet to his death in an area of the park known as Old Man's Cave.
The second incident, which was unrelated, happened at a different area of the park called Cantwell Cliffs.
Police say a woman, 23, whose name is not yet released, fell 100-feet off a cliff. According to ODNR, she was air-lifted to a Columbus hospital where she underwent surgery and is expected to survive.
Due to the fatal accident, Ohio Christian University is cancelling classes and exams on Monday. Students and staff will instead honor Rodriguez at a memorial service in the Maxwell Center at the University's Circleville campus.
