School Bus Crashes into House

PIKETON -- A school bus crashed into a house off Jasper Road in Pike County early Tuesday morning.

Fortunately no one was seriously hurt and there were no children on the bus at the time.

The corner of the garage is barely standing after the impact.

"It was unreal," said Nicole Drown, who grew up in the house that was hit.  "It was not a normal wake-up call."

We were not able to reach any county officials to find out if there are any plans to repair or replace the bridge.

Deputies said the accident happened as a school bus was crossing a one-lane bridge.  A Jeep Cherokee tried to cross at the same time when the bus was only halfway across.  The bus lost control and then slammed into the Drown's house.

"It breaks your heart a little inside," she said.

Neighbors and deputies agree this bridge is a problem.  Neighbors said they see cars speed across the bridge all the time.

"It was going to happen sooner or later," Drown said.  "Thank God there were no kids (on board)."

The bridge looks like it's falling apart, but neighbors said every time they've complained about it county leaders have said there's no money to fix it.

"Is it going to take a bus full of kids getting hurt to actually get things needing to get fixed fixed?" Drown said.  "What's it going to take?"
