"Sequester" Cuts Could Deal Blow To Ohio Budget

DOWNTOWN COLUMBUS - The automatic federal spending cuts due to kick in on March 1 will affect virtually everyone in Ohio.
The White House has released a report showing how much federal funding each state is expected to lose under the so-called "sequester" plan.
Ohio would lose more than $450,000 in justice assistance grants.
The grants are used to support police departments, district attorney's offices and local courts.
Nearly $250,000 earmarked for programs for victims of domestic violence and abuse would also be taken away.
Education would also lose around $25 million in federal funds.
The White House says Ohio alone could lose 350 teaching and classroom aide positions.
Ohio's military jobs would take a huge hit too.
The White House said 26,000 civilian defense department employees will be furloughed, including employees with the Army and Air Force.
ABC 6/FOX 28 News is working to learn what Governor John Kasich plans to do if the cuts occur.
