COLUMBUS -- FreedomOhio is collecting signatures to put legalizing same sex marriage on an election ballot for you to decide.
Ian James, co-founder of FreedomOhio, says they have "a lot" of signatures so far and are confident they will have the 386,000 needed for the measure to go onto a ballot.
They looking into whether they have enough momentum to put it on in November or to wait until next year.
This measure would be two-fold; legalizing same sex marriage in Ohio, but also allowing religious groups to decide whether or not they want to perform the ceremonies or recognize the marriages.
Nationally, attorneys representing ProtectMarriage.com, the original sponsors of Prop 8, defended the law before the Supreme Court Tuesday morning.
The lead attorneys say that the state of California has the authority to defend Prop 8, which was passed in 2008, and that the Supreme Court should respect individual state's rights.
