COLUMBUS -- The salon and spa industry is a $40 billion dollars a year industry.
Many of you aren’t surprised because you dig deep into your wallets every time you go to the salon.
There are alternatives stylists say you can do for the fraction of the price.
First, check out haircut chains or barbershops, because usually their prices can be quite competitive.
For color, stylists suggest over the counter products are great for a single process but they say stay away from doing your own highlights.
If you just want to keep your hair conditioned and tame your mane, head to the refrigerator.
Stylists say avocadoes are great for damaged frizzy hair.
Bananas help plump up fine, limp hair.
Stylists say baking soda with small amounts of water will take off any buildup of products.
Other tips include: come with your hair already washed and skip the blow dry.
Also don’t get expensive treatments during their busy season, Christmas and wedding season, where some stylists may charge more.
