Technical Programs on Display at Statehouse

COLUMBUS -- Dozens of high school students from across the state had a chance to educate lawmakers and the governor about their career-technical programs during a showcase Thursday at the Ohio Statehouse.
Through the course of the afternoon, legislators and Gov. John Kasich, (R)-Ohio, stopped by tables displaying robotics, biotechnology and welding projects.
“Somebody who can weld, you’re in demand,” Kasich told one student. “So if you go work for your father, make sure he pays you a lot of money.”
The exposition is partially about money.
Lawmakers are working through the budget process. Organizers hope they’ll keep technical programs top-of-mind for funding.
Kasich stressed the importance of training young people for jobs in Ohio’s existing and emerging industries.
