White Powder at OU: Toothpaste

Updated: Wednesday, May 1 2013, 08:19 AM EDT
ATHENS (AP) -- Officials say the white powder that led to an evacuation of a building at Ohio University last week was toothpaste used to seal an envelope.
The university in Athens said the envelope contained an application and background materials from a West Virginia prison inmate.
Authorities interviewed the person who mailed the package and determined that toothpaste had been used to seal the envelope.

The toothpaste had dried and flaked into a powder.
The discovery of the white powder Thursday led to the evacuation of employees from the OU legal affairs office and a bank branch in the same building.

The FBI and a weapons of mass destruction team from Rickenbacker Air Force Base in Columbus were called to investigate.
Officials said the employee who reported the white powder acted appropriately.White Powder at OU: Toothpaste
