COLUMBUS -- A wrong-way driver causes a serious accident on I-670 near the airport that sent a pregnant woman to the hospital.
According to Columbus Police, the wrong way driver, 25-year-old Casey Badgley, was called in by multiple people in the area of the Cassady Avenue saying the car was heading westbound in the eastbound lanes.
Responding officers on I-670 eastbound located a crash just north of E 5th Avenue involving the wrong-way driver and another vehicle., driven by 26-year-old Sara Vogelmeier.
Vogelmeier, who is 7 months pregnant, was transported to OSU's Wexner Medical Center in critical condition. According to Columbus Police, doctors needed to perform an emergency c-section on the woman.
After the child was delivered, the condition of both the mother and the child were downgraded to 'life-threatening'.
Badgley was transported to Grant Medical Center in 'extremely critical' condition. He was taken into surgery a short time after arrival, but was later pronounced dead around 3:00 am. The baby was taken off of life support Friday morning.
The Columbus Division of Police Accident Investigation Squad continues to investigate the crash and it remains unknown who was at fault in the accident.
Columbus Police and the Ohio Department of Transportation closed down the eastbound lanes of I-670 from Leonard Avenue to Cassady Avenue for several hours.
Police say they believe Casey Bagdley was drunk at the time of the crash.
