HS Wrestling: Six central Ohioans win state titles

Of the dozen local wrestlers who were one win away from winning a state championship on Saturday, exactly half of them finished on top of the podium.

Olentangy Liberty, Dublin Coffman, Circleville, and Mechanicsburg all had wrestlers crowned as the kings of their weight class and division.

The moment of the night belonged to the nation's top-ranked wrestler at 170 pounds, Mechanicsburg's Kaleb Romero, who won his fourth state title. The senior will wrestle for Ohio State at the collegiate level.

Division I

113 pounds: Brakan Mead (Olentangy Liberty) defeats Bryace Hepner (Lakewood St. Edward), 2-0

120 pounds: Brendon Fenton (Elyra) defeats Gio DiSabato (Hilliard Davidson), 5-4

145 pounds: Dom Demas (Dublin Coffman) defeats Trey Grenier (Olentangy Liberty), Pinfall at 2:30

152 pounds: David Carr (Massillon Perry) defeats Jaden Mattox (Central Crossing), 7-1

285 pounds: Kevin Vough (Elyria) defeats Ben Frye (Dublin Coffman), 5-2

Division II

113 pounds: Nate Keaton (Circleville) defeats Dominic Carone (Streetsboro), 1-0

170 pounds: David Crawford (Canfield) defeats Dimitri Williams (New Lexington), 3-1 SV (Sudden Victory)

Division III

132 pounds: Alex Rhine (Mechanicsburg) defeats Alex Isbrandt (Casstown Miami East), 8-6 SV

145 pounds: Tanner Smith (Mechanicsburg) defeats Stan Bleich (Elyria Catholic), 5-1

152 pounds: Jacob Lagoa (Ashtabula St. John) defeats Colt Yinger (Mechanicsburg), 6-3

170 pounds: Kaleb Romero (Mechanicsburg) defeats Brett Vonderwell (Delphos St. John's), Pinfall at 0:52
