Memorial Tournament: Former Blue Jacket R.J. Umberger getting serious about the game
POWELL -- Longtime Columbus Blue Jacket R.J. Umberger has built his dream home just a 5-iron from Muirfield Village in Powell.
Included therein is a golf playground, complete with green, bunker and an elevatad shot off the balcony of his man cave, a tribute to his 14-year career in the National Hockey League.
"When we decided to build the house (last year) the green and all of that was a real priority for me," Umberger told ABC-6. "I can go watch a football game then open the door and hit a few shots onto the green below."
Umberger says he uses the green, built by Southwest Greens, as a real entertainment piece at parties. The green is accompanied by a nearby bunker to practice those delicate chips out of the sand.
"We've built massive greens before," said Rick Dodson of Southwest Greens. "We put in for a guy in Cincinnati an incredible deal that was $350,000 and another one recently that was $100,000.
The greens instillation begin at $10,000.
