"The Basketball Tournament," TBT, is returning and Columbus is set to host regional games of the $2 million, winner-take-all summer basketball event.

TBT announced Capital University will host games in the Midwest bracket the weekend of July 20-22.

The tournament, which will air live on ESPN, this upcoming July with the championship taking place in Baltimore the first weekend in August.

“The Basketball Tournament has grown into a summer staple in an incredibly short amount of time, given the typical developmental runway for a sports property,” said Jon Mugar, Founder and CEO of TBT. “This year was our toughest decision yet, as we received interest from so many great cities that wanted to bring TBT to their communities. We’re excited by this year’s lineup of host venues and are confident the arenas will be filled with passionate fans to supply the incredible atmosphere that’s become synonymous with TBT over the years.”

Organizers said they are excited to work with Capital University to bring the tournament to Columbus.

“We are proud to partner with Capital University to bring another signature basketball event to our sports community," said Greater Columbus Sports Commission Executive Director Linda Logan. "The Ohio State 'Scarlet and Gray' team had such a great run to the semifinals in TBT last year and that was the impetus for Columbus to bid on this event so Buckeye fans could experience these games first hand."

"Scarlet and Gray" was composed primarily of former Buckeye greats including Aaron Craft and Jared Sullinger.

TBT will feature a 72-team bracket of top-notch professional basketball, featuring college alumni teams, international basketball stars, ex-NBA players, future NBA players, and more competing in a single-elimination 5-on-5 tournament for a winner-take-all $2 million prize.

Games kick off on ESPN beginning Friday, July 13.
