Crew SC signs captain, Gahanna native Wil Trapp to multi-year extension
COLUMBUS — Columbus Crew SC has signed homegrown player Wil Trapp to a multi-year contract extension, the team announced on Tuesday.
The 24-year-old Gahanna native is in his fifth season with the black & gold was named captain of the club ahead of the 2017 MLS season.
The club said they used Targeted Allocation Money (TAM) used in the deal.
Trapp has made 95 regular season appearances (92 starts) for Crew SC.
Last season, he was named to the 2016 MLS All-Star roster amid a season where he made 30 appearances (29 starts) where he logged a career high 2,543 minutes. Trapp was the second most accurate passer in the league at over 88 percent, according to sports data provider Opta.
“We are thrilled to announce that Wil has committed to remain in Columbus with a new multi-year contract extension. He is one of the leaders of our club, a model professional and an important part of our community,” said Sporting Director and Head Coach Gregg Berhalter.
Trapp, a product of Crew SC Academy who also played two seasons at the University of Akron, has made two appearances with the US Men's National Team.
