TFF: Scarlet wins Spring Game as QBs, dual-threats Dixon, McCall shine

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) -- While the starting QB of 2017 is locked with two-plus-year starter J.T. Barrett, but the race as to who will succeed him in 2018 has gotten underway.

Redshirt sophomore Joe Burrow and redshirt freshman Dwayne Haskins each had at least 250 yards with three scores as the Scarlet beat the Grey, 38-31.

Burrow (who played for the Scarlet) was of 14-of-22 for 262 yards and three touchdowns. Haskins (who split time with the Scarlet and Gray) was 26-of-37 with 293 yards and three TD's.

Junior wide receiver Johnnie Dixon, who's had an injury-riddled career with the Buckeyes, had 119 yards on seven touches (six receptions, one carry) and a couple of touchdowns.

Sophomore running back DeMario McCall was a dual-threat as well with 131 yards on eight touches (six carries and two receptions) and a score.

  • Projected second round pick at RB/WR Curtis Samuel


The game, which featured special guest coaches Lou Holtz (College Football Hall of Fame) and Phil Knight (Nike Founder and CEO), was capped by a 20-yard touchdown from 17-year-old Jacob Jarvis, a person with muscular dystrophy who's been with the OSU program for the past four years.
