Authorities Find Previously Missing Girl Safe in Jackson Home

JACKSON, Ohio (Ken Hines) -- A 6-year-old girl has been found safe after disappearing from her home early Friday morning.

According to information provided by Jackson Mayor Randy Heath, Macey Stewart walked to a house approximately six miles from her home Friday afternoon, several hours after she was last seen.

Macey disappeared from her Chestnut St. home while under the care of a family friend, who claimed the little girl went missing shortly after a stranger visited the house, according to the child's father, Frank.

Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation agents traveled to Jackson on Friday morning to assist local police with search efforts.

Authorities have not commented on any possible criminal activity that may be related to Macey's disappearance, but Mayor Heath voiced his belief that someone other than the child was involved.

"She did not get out there on her own," he said. "So obviously, there are people that want to know how this girl got out there."

Doctors are examining Macey to verify that she was not harmed during her absence.
