Police Investigate Possible Explosion at CPD HQ
COLUMBUS (Ken Hines/Joe Stoll) -- Officers are investigating reports of an explosion at the Columbus Division of Police Headquarters.
The reports came in at around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the department at 120 Marconi Blvd.
During a news conference, Sgt. Rich Weiner said patrol officers felt the building shake before hearing a loud noise outside. There were also some initial reports of the smell of gunpowder.
The building was immediately put on lock down and roads were blocked off. Investigators went through the building floor-by-floor to try and find the cause.
At approximately 8:30 p.m., the building was evacuated and the people inside were put onto COTA busses.
Police are looking into reports of suspicious people and activity in the area, but aren't saying if any of that has anything to do with what occurred.
This is a developing story. ABC 6/FOX 28 will provide more information as it becomes available.
