Church Without Heat Asks for Help
COSHOCTON (Tom Bosco/Kate Liebers) -- A Central Ohio church that is usually on the giving end of charity is now asking for help.
Shiloh Missionary Baptist church is in need of a new furnace -- a $32,000 expense the pastor said the church cannot afford.
The thermometer reads 46 degrees, making the air inside the building seem chillier than the weather outside.
This could be problematic -- not just for the congregation, but for the homeless population that has relied on the church as a warm place to rest.
The ancient boiler has hobbled along with repairs and replacements, but it now appears to be beyond salvation.
"They don't make the parts," Rev. Cliff Biggers said. "The valves we need replaced, they don't make those anymore."
The community has already begun stepping up. While ABC 6/FOX 28 was on site, a visitor delivered a $200 check.
Biggers said he is praying that the congregation can be in their own building on Dec. 25.
"We believe that God's going to bless us to have Christmas in our building," he said.
The pastor pointed out that the Bible says to "ask and you shall receive."
He said he hopes that will be the case.
