MONDAY: Homemade Kahlua

CHAMPIONSHIP BAKER (Kellie Hanna) Cathy Blackwood is a champion baker who won 26 ribbons at the Ohio State Fair this past year including one with Dana Turtle.

When she surprised Dana with the award, she said she was nicknamed the "Booze Princess" because she likes to put alcohol in her desserts.  She also makes her own kahlua.

Cathy brought her recipe for it and is in the kitchen with Pete and Shawn.

First she dissolves four cups of sugar into boiling water and then adds two ounces of instant coffee to dissolve it.

She uses 100 proof vodka into a canister with a vanilla bean, adds the sugar, water, coffee mixture, and puts it on a shelf in her pantry for a month.

She uses that kahlua to make her cheesecake that had chocolate covered coffee beans around the edge.
